She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Odell “Robert” Springfield; her mother, Joy Springfield Lancaster; her sisters, Jean Kennedy, Margaret Cleveland, and Alice Pierson Filleman; her first husband, Reverend James Duell “Doug” Smith; her second husband, Royce R. Telle; her son, James D. “Jimmy” Smith; her daughter, Barbara A. Dancer; her stepson, Whitney Telle (survived by his wife, Rita); and her grandson, Daniel S. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Kitchens (Jim); her son, Timothy Smith (Lori); her stepchildren, Anthony Telle, Ronny Telle (Tammy), and Nota Telle; her grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Katy Gorden, Jenny Jackson, Bart Smith, and Rachel Smith-Leach (John Mark); several cherished step-grandchildren; her great grandchildren, Eli Gorden, Owen Jackson, Emily Jackson, and Alicia Smith and brother, Robert Springfield (Judy).
Being a pastor’s wife was one of Betty’s greatest joys, and she embraced it as a true calling and blessing. The love and encouragement she shared will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper, Alabama with a funeral service following at 1:00PM.
The family will have a private burial at Walker Memory Gardens to follow.
