
Family will receive friends on Monday, February 5, 2018, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Rev. David Byrd and Rev. Howard Thompson will officiate.
Mildred was a member of Northside Baptist Church since she was a teenager. She served in the choir and taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was the third president of the Pilot Club of Jasper, president of B.P.W. Club, president of Times Study Club, and owned and operated the first Merle Norman Cosmetics in Jasper for 14 years. She enjoyed working in the yard, playing cards - especially poker and bridge, being at family get-togethers, playing golf, and was a fan of Auburn Football and Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harley J. Barton and W.A. Grant Jr.; parents, Charlie W. and Viola Rushing Harbison; father- and mother-in-law, Walter and Nellie Barton; brothers, Hollis Harbison, Robert Harbison, and Dennis Harbison; brothers-in-law, Daniel Barton (Hazel), Travis O`Neal Barton (Dean), Louis Weakly (Myrtle), and Arlen Barton (Louise); and step-son, Walter Grant.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen Barton (Carla) of Birmingham, Rev. Ronnie Barton (Ann Marie) of Daytona Beach, Fla. grandson, Rev. Brian Barton (Kayla); granddaughter, Leah Silvis (Jesse); great-grandchildren, Alana Silvis, Paige Silvis, Emalee Barton, Harley J. Barton, and Jesse James Silvis II; stepson, Alec Grant (Jane); stepgrandchildren, Kelly Schuck, Virginia Blair, Mary-Bestor Grant, Will Grant, Catie Grant, and Erin Grant; sisters, Nancy “Cookie” Harbison, Doris Wakefield; brothers, Rev. Willis Harbison (Carolyn), Rev. Charles Harbison (Betty), and Donald Harbison (Becky); close friends, Dr. Buddy Thorne and family, Gwen Guthrie, Ann Wade, and Louise Dover; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Northside Baptist Church.
