

William G. Rushing, 88 of Jasper went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2015. Gerald was a veteran of WWII and a Major in the Army Reserves. He served the Lord at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. His love for teaching and children was expressed by working as a teacher and principal in the Walker County School System for 36 years. He was a graduate of Curry High School, Jacksonville State and the University of Alabama. In addition to his church activities, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, golfing, and Alabama football. He was preceded in death by his wife LaGeita Rushing. He is survived by his daughters, Shanda Brown and Carol Bishop; son and daughter-in-law Daryl & Connie Rushing; stepchildren, Bo Vann, Vickie Fallon, Mary Beth Squires; grandchildren, Brandi Howton, Destiny Brown, Coal Brown, Heather Bishop, Jared Bishop, Sam Childs, Cassie Vann, and Emma Vann. Gerald and his family are eternally grateful for the care provided by Victoria Rhegness & Marilyn Oglesby; and his special friends, Bunk & LaVaugh Wilson, and Gene & Jimmie Abbott. The service will be at 2 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church; the visitation will also be Tuesday from 12-2PM at the church. Burial will be at Winston Memorial Cemetery following the service. Bro. John Gates will be officiating.
