

He was born September 12, 1925 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Frank and Constance Zappier Sgro.
Rev. Sgro grew up in Pittsburgh where he graduated high school, attend Bible College, the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and also received a Doctorate of Divinity from Trinity Bible College.
His life’s passion was serving the Lord and people. He pastored in Erie, Burgettstown, Carmichaels, Clarksville, and Marianna with the Disciples of Christ Christian Church.
Rev. Sgro also was a prison chaplain at the former Youth Development Center, the Women’s Correctional Institution and the State Correctional Institution Waynesburg, at one time.
Rev. Sgro also served in the United States Marine Corps during WW II and was a life member of the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson.
On April 8, 1947 he married Mary J. Leone, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Connie Jennette of Mather, and Frank (Jeannie) Sgro of Oakmont; 6 grandchildren, William Ivanusic, Danielle (Lucas) Spieler, Domenica Sgro (Mike), Gianna Sgro, Dani (Matt) Walton, and Tia (Steve) Knauss; 11 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother and 3 sisters.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 pm on Wednesday, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with the Revs. Ty Sabella and Ron Susek officiating. Interment will be private in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson, and the United States Marine Corps.
