

He was born May 7, 1932 in Zollarsville, Washington County, a son of the late Cecil and Thelma Steele Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson High School. After high school he worked as an ironworker in Pittsburgh for two years.
On December 9, 1952 he joined the United States Navy and served during the Korean War aboard the Shangri-la, until his discharge on December 5, 1956.
When he returned home he married Marie S. Krall on July 5, 1957 in Marianna, who survives.
Mr. Perkins worked a number of jobs, including an orderly at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital and a grave digger at Oakmont Cemetery, while returning to school. He graduated from Waynesburg College in 1960 and received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962.
He worked for the Youth Development Centers at Canonsburg and Waynesburg. He finished his career as the senior therapist and director of Greene County Mental Health Clinic with Centerville Clinics.
Mr. Perkins was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers, the American Legion Steele-Lillie Post 744 of Marianna, on the founding Board of the Marianna Library, Marianna Volunteer Fire Company, Friends of the Hughes House in Jefferson, a board member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging and Group Home, Inc.
He loved his grandchildren, old country & blue grass music, hunting and fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Phyllis Perkins (Gene Chambers) of Richeyville; three grandchildren, Annie Berry of Richeyville, Jesse Berry of Richeyville and Ariel Berry, who had made her home with her grandparents for the last 6 months; two sisters, Peggy Donley (Terry) of Davistown and Polly Kokowski of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Dale Perkins and William Harold Perkins.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday in the Behm Funeral Home, Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012 with Rev. James Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Horn Cemetery, Marianna.
