He was born on January 23, 1964 to the late Leroy Dale Shaffer Sr. and Judy Ann Murphy Shaffer. He was a 1982 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School. Following college, he went to Culinary Arts School and continued his career as a General Manager for college dining services. Starting at a young age, his love for music led him to playing bass and writing songs in local bands: Allied Forces, Quick Exit, and Southbound - this led to lifelong friendships. John was an active member of The American Legion Post 816, where he was also a charter member and past president of The Legion Riders. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 153. He volunteered and donated to many charities in the community. In his younger years, he was an EMT, scuba diver, and firefighter. He enjoyed many hours on the open road on his Victory.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Shaffer, his stepchildren, Emma Holaren and Patrick Holaren, and their mother, Sara Shaffer; girlfriend, Kelly Koval; brother, Dale Shaffer Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mary was his pride and joy - he enjoyed every moment with her. He also enjoyed his Saturday "meetings" with the Uncles. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm at Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344; burial will be privately held at a later date.
