She was born on August 12,1924 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Lynell Porter and Leslie Burch Gary. Frances attended Pasqual High School. Her grandparents, Vivian Agatha Lamar Porter and Henry Sherwood Porter, ran a boarding house where she met Marvin Shear who served in the U.S. Navy. He sold his car to buy her a ring and they married in 1942. They were stationed in San Diego, CA during World War II before returning to Ft. Worth where their only child, Pamela Jene was born. Frances worked in banking with First National Bank in Texas through the 1960's, and moved to Stuart, Florida to be near her daughter and family in 1977.
Frances enjoyed traveling the world with friends, taking her grandchildren on adventures big and small, cooking and entertaining, and above all, spending time with family and friends. Frances was loved by all who knew her, and if you knew her, she was your Nana too. She was an accomplished seamstress and volunteered with the Hibiscus Children’s Center and Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center. Frances will always be remembered for her bright smile and dimples, wit, southern charm, straight talk, and her Texas sheet cake, fried chicken, and Thanksgiving turkey.
She is survived by her daughter Pam Gardner and son-in-law Dr. Albert Gardner, grandchildren Joseph Patton (HavreDe), Allison Gregorczyk (Shane), Kelly Patton and Todd Gardner (Lesley), great grandchildren, Lauren Gregorczyk, Abigail Gregorczyk, Ava Sylvester, Kaya Sylvester, Jossyln Gardner, and Graham Patton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Aycock Funeral Home in Jensen Beach, Florida on January 20th at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow at Pam and Al Gardner’s home. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hibiscus Children's Center.
