Hal Hansen, 80, died on Oct. 20 at his home in Sailfish Point, in Stuart, Florida where he had lived for over 21 years.
Hal was born in Muskegon, MI, was a graduate of Muskegon Heights High School, a graduate of the Business School of The University of Michigan, and served in the US Air Force.
Hal joined IBM in 1954 and held various positions in Toledo, Cleveland, Chicago, New York City, and White Plains, NY. After 35 years with IBM, his executive career culminated as Group Director of Product Management, IBM Europe.
Hal's career advancement led the family to eventually settle in New Canaan, CT in 1963 where all four children graduated from high school.
He moved to Sailfish Point in 1989 and was very active on their Board of Directors for many years, serving as President from 1996-97 and 2003-2005. He also played the piano for Valentine and Christmas Sing-a-longs at Sailfish Point for over 15 years.
Hal was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Margary "Maggie" (Shoesmith), who passed away on her birthday, December 25, 1997.
Survivors include his wife of ten years, Gloria; three sons Harold Hansen Jr. of Tewksbury, MA; Thomas (Muriel) Hansen of Paris, France; Jon (Patricia) Hansen of Kennebunk, ME; and daughter Elizabeth (Robert) Tracy of Woodbury, MN; brother, David Hansen, of Davis, CA; Gloria's children: Linda (David) Quigley, Carmel, IN; Laura (Edward) Carey, Akron, OH; Troy (Brooke) Ferber, Rocky River, OH; Todd Ferber, Stuart, FL. He had 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Hal was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Stuart serving on the vestry, the stewardship committee, and as an usher. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, Oct 30th, at 3PM.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution would be welcomed by St. Mary’s.
