When we were kids living in fairlawn apartments, Jim was a few years older than me.  I remember walking to the high school with him to watch him play basketball.  He was a good friend to a younger kid.  We lost touch when we moved away, but I am sure he never changed in how he treated others.  I think of those days from time to time and how close we all were.  My next ride will be in his memory.

I always enjoyed talking with and helping Jim in any way I could while we worked together. My heart is so heavy these last few days after hearing of Jimmy's passing.  I can remember as a little girl and even as a grown woman his presence was always larger than life! Katie and family I am so sorry for your loss. I loved him like a brother and I will never forget him. Two weeks ago my son Keith who is a GPD officer worked with Jim's son Mike SPD.  I sent jim an e-mail telling him that after we worked together for 25 years our sons now work together.  Jim's one line response was DOESN'T IT MAKE YOU PROUD. Yes it does.
There is now a void in my heart that will never be filled.

It is with a deep sense of sadness that I learned that we have lost a brave and courageous defender of justice. Jim Lunney was an outstanding detective, person and friend and his passing is a great loss to his family, friends, and the "Thin Blue Line". My thoughts and prayers are with Katie, his children and their families.

My heart has never hurt so much. I can't stop thinking about The Wee Chapel by the Sea and how lucky we were to spend your honeymoon night with you. I think you even gave me and my sisters your bed to sleep in. You were like a father to me and I hope I thanked you for being there with us during my fathers accident. I love you and Katie so much.
