Everett Edwin Shell, age 88, formerly of Erwin, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the Opal at Bluewater Bay in Niceville, Florida. He was born in Erwin, Tennessee, a son of the late Doran D. Shell and Ruth Prior Shell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Shell Cheek, brother Dr. Doran Shell, and sister-in-law Jean Shell.
Everett was raised in Erwin, attended Love Street Elementary and graduated from Unicoi County High School. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Most of Everett’s working career was spent in government service. He retired as the Director of Loans for Small Business Administrations in Washington, DC after 26 years. Upon retirement, he moved back to Erwin where he was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Gideons, President of the Erwin Kiwanis Club, served on the Erwin Board of Mayor and Aldermen and was a member of the Erwin Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Lt Col John D. Shell and wife Kristen; two grandchildren, Andersen and Davis as well as several nieces and nephews: Nancy Cheek Lee of Wears Valley, Tn and Ann and Robert L. Cheek, both of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 12:30PM until 1:30PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Committal Service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30PM with Pastor Adam Crabtree officiating. Interment will be held in Section 15 at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
