

John Edward Hankinson passed away at his home on the evening of January 10, 2023. Ed Hankinson was a well-known, admired, and respected part of the Licking County farming community. He was a 4-H advisor of 25 years, a life-long member of the Alexandria Baptist Church, a jail ministry volunteer of 40 years, and an untiring public servant. In addition to the Northridge Board of Education, he served on numerous agricultural boards, clubs, associations, and committees. Over his career, he was recognized as the Alexandria Community Man of the Year, Licking County Outstanding Young Farmer, Ohio Outstanding Young Farmer, Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District Farmer of the Year, and he was enshrined in the Licking County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Ed Hankinson traced his family farming heritage to the Welsh Hills region of Granville where his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents made their homes. He was salutatorian of his class at Alexandria High School, and he attended The Ohio State University. In 1952, Ed was drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Korea for fifteen months.
Ed Hankinson married Betty Icenhower on May 11, 1952. Together they built and maintained a successful farm located between Alexandria and Granville. They raised four daughters: Terry Green (John), Beth Mackley (Timm), Julia Williams, and Sarah Travis (Craig). His wife, his sister Rebecca Shaw, his children, his 11 grandchildren, and his 7 great-grandchildren remain to honor his memory.

Family and friends may call from 3-7pm Friday, January 20, 2023 at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031. A funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, January 21, 2023 on Ed’s 91st birthday, at the Alexandria Baptist Church, 94 W. Main St., Alexandria, OH 43001, with burial to follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery.
