Larry Eugene Almendinger

Larry Eugene Almendinger, 87, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born on June 28, 1936, in Johnstown, Ohio, a son to the late Mark Daniel and Mae Ellen (Kirk) Almendinger. Gene was a graduate of Johnstown High School and served two years in the United States Army. Following his military service, Gene married Saundra (Evans) Almendinger. Gene's life work was in the hardwood lumber industry, retiring just five months ago. Gene had a love for the horses. In his later years, he owned several race horses and enjoyed watching them run and even collecting a few trophies. Gene loved traveling with Saundra, taking care of his home, and riding his lawn mower. Gene's true joy, however, came from eating oysters and drinking Manhattans with friends and spending time with his family. Of all of Gene's endeavors, being a wonderful father and grandfather were his most successful. Gene was loved and supported by his son, Daniel (Kris); grandchildren, Claire (Drew) Dague, Daniel Mark and Adeline; brother, Joe (Hazel); sisters-in-law, Diane Almendinger and Margaret (Jerry) Albert; and five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Saundra, and his brother, Bill. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Johnstown United Methodist Church, 159 S. Main St., Johnstown, OH 43031. Funeral service will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown United Methodist Church.
