Ross E. McClain, 55 years old, passed away peacefully at his home on October 20th 2024, after a courageous 14-month battle with stage 4 glioblastoma. His deep love for family, unwavering faith, and the support and prayers were a source of strength and comfort.
Born on September 11th, 1969 in Reynoldsburg, OH, Ross the son of Barbara and Leland McClain. He was the beloved older brother of Brian, with whom he shared a close bond growing up, just 15 months apart. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures, including BMX riding and chasing girls.
From an early age, Ross was known for his contagious smile and entertaining sense of humor. After graduating from Reynoldsburg High School, he pursued higher education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Ross then embarked on a career at The Ohio State University, where he would serve for 33 years, retiring only after his diagnosis. He began as a Security Officer and rose to become the Director of Occupational Health and Safety, a role he cherished. Over the years, his coworkers became close friends, and he took great pride in his work.
In 1998, Ross met the love of his life, Vickie, through mutual friends (special thanks to Larry and Renee). A year and a half later the couple married on June 27th, 1998. They shared a 26 year marriage marked by deep love, shared adventures, and a commitment to family. They were a through thick and thin couple, who enjoyed traveling, hosting family dinners, and falling asleep to their favorite tv shows together.
Ross and Vickie were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kahley and Leighlyn, who Ross adored. Ross was truly a family man whose winnings came from spending time with them. He was a devoted father, always present for his girls, whether it was a choir concert, softball game, or a cheerleading competition. His zest for life was present in everything he did from playing cards, camping, hosting dinners, a good cigar, old hymns, mowing the lawn, riding his Harley, traveling, and telling jokes. He especially treasured his role of being “Pap” to his three-year-old year grandson, William, with whom he loved taking walks in the woods on a path he created in their backyard.
Although Ross’ time on earth seemed brief, he lived a rich and fulfilling life, embracing each role he had- as a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He gave all to those he loved and filled every role to the fullest; and then some.
Ross is survived by mother Barbara McClain; wife Vickie McClain; daughters Kahley Starcher and Leighlyn Powell; Son-in-laws Cody Starcher and Clayton Powell; grandson William Starcher; brother Brian McClain; nephew Brian Ross McClain; brother-in-law Kenny Lupo; In-laws Joe and Stormee Lupo and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland McClain.
The Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on October 25th, 2024 from 3:30-7:00 at Grace Fellowship-Jefferson Campus, 3600 N Waggoner Road Blacklick, OH 43004.
The family is profoundly grateful for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support from so many people, including Hospice, Grace Fellowship, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Kobacker House, which provided Ross with compassionate care in his final days. The facility and staff were a true blessing to Ross and his family.
