Freddie Lee Calhoun was born March 1, 1931 in Carrollton, Georgia to the late Fred Douglas Calhoun and Henrietta Hill Calhoun. Her family moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1939. She was the oldest of six children four girls, and two boys. She attended E. R. Carter Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School class of 1949 Atlanta, Georgia. Freddie Lee accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior during the early years of her life and united with the West Hunter Street Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In her later life Freddie Lee became a member of the West End Seventh- day Adventist Church, Atlanta, Georgia. According to Veronica Gadsden, “Sister Perry said Freddie was a Prayer Warrior, one who encourages those who seek encouragement. Freddie was usually pursued before and after services for a word of encouragement and prayer. In fact, she enjoyed conversations with members leading up to her departure from this earth. Freddie was one of God’s foot soldiers. When members would visit her at the nursing home to give Communion quarterly they would return feeling that she was always looking forward to their visit; even though she could not communicate that verbally.”
Freddie Lee was married to David Mouzon in the early 50s until his death in the Navy. Freddie Lee moved to Washington, D. C. in her early years and moved back home to be closer to her family in the late 80’s. Freddie resided at the Roswell Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center until her death. She often shared bible reading with one of the nurses Winniet (Winnie) Zembe who read with her daily. Felicia Mansaray, her social worker stated, “Freddie was a people watcher, very independent, and was quite the character loved by many at the nursing home.”
