Ruby Lee (Gee) Grey
July 4, 1932 – November 14, 2014
Ruby Lee (Gee) Grey, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully just after midnight on Friday, November 14th, 2014 at the age of 82.
Mrs. Grey was born in Pickens County, GA on July 4th, 1932. Her family moved to Calhoun, GA when she was a young girl. She grew up in the country, feeding the chickens, milking the family cow, and picking cotton. At eighteen she got a much-loved job at Georgia Textile where she made bedspreads – and good friends. It was in Calhoun that she met the love of her life, Pat, through his brother, Ralph. They were married October 18th, 1958, and recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Grey was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lovejoy, joining in 1962. Her hobbies included cooking, vegetable gardening, canning, freezing, and sewing. Ruby’s talent with a sewing machine was widely known among her friends and church members. She often made her children’s clothing and could look at a dress and recreate it, usually improving it.
Ruby was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease fifteen years ago. She battled the disease at home with the care of her husband until February 2014. At that time she moved into GoldenCrest Assisted Living of Stockbridge where Pat visited most days. She passed away in the care of Heartland Hospice at Sacred Journeys Hospice Center.
Mrs. Grey was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Henry Gee, her brothers Ernest and Herman Gee, and her sisters Ottie Mae Gibson and Ruth Young.
She is survived by her loving husband Pat Grey, her daughter Terri Culy and husband Jeff, her sons Gary, Greg, and Scott Grey, and her grandchildren Lauren and Mitchell Culy and Patrick Yaeger-Grey.
The family will be celebrating her life with a service at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, GA on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014; Pastor Mike Hardin will officiate. Visitation will also be held at Tara Garden Chapel on Monday, November 17, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
For those wishing to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family recommends the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (http://www.apdaparkinson.org / 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305).
