Andy was born on August 3, 1937, in Albany, New York, to the late Andrew and Julia Mayone. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and went on to work alongside his father in the family super market in Ravena, NY. Andy later joined the National Guard, where he proudly served for nine years as a First Cook.
In 1960, Andy married Carol, the love of his life. Together, they built a remarkable life and opened several successful businesses, including Bartke’s King of Steaks Restaurant, two car washes, Mayone Realty, and Mayone’s Wines and Liquors. Their partnership was defined by hard work, shared ambition, and deep devotion to one another.
Andy was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and gardening. As a young man, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father and later continued these pursuits with close friends. He especially treasured trips to the Adirondacks, Hudson Bay, and Newfoundland. Andy also had a passion for gardening and at one point maintained a garden spanning nearly an acre, where he grew fresh vegetables for his restaurant. Using his homegrown tomatoes, he made sauce for his famous homemade gnocchi, and he spent countless hours cooking for appreciative family and friends.
A dedicated collector, Andy first collected stamps and later developed interests in coins and fine wines. He was known for his generosity, craftsmanship in the kitchen, and the joy he took in sharing good food and good company.
Andy and Carol purchased a home on Jupiter Island, Florida, in 1992. After many years as snowbirds, they eventually made it their full-time residence following retirement.
Andy is survived by Carol, his wife of 65 years; his daughters, Caroline (Mark) DiStefano and Amelia Mayone; his granddaughters, Zoe (James) Bruce, Helene (Ryan Graf) DiStefano, and Julia DiStefano; and his great-grandson, Evan Bruce. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Peter Mayone, Sr. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ronald (Dorothy) Cross; his sister-in-law, Margaret Mayone; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who became family.
A private service and celebration of life were held in Tequesta, Florida. Another celebration of life will be held in Ravena at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of choice in Andy’s memory.
