Barbara Colleen Sowders Deckard

Barbara Colleen Sowders Deckard, 81, of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 in her home surrounded by her husband and children. Barbara Deckard was an active member of the Hobe Sound Bible Church. Barbara and her husband, Dewey, moved to Hobe Sound in 1967 to put their children in Hobe Sound Christian Academy and to help expand the printing business at Hobe Sound Bible College.

Barbara Deckard is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Dewey Deckard of Hobe Sound, five children, Timothy Joseph Deckard (Linda), Melissa Faith Cook (Gene), Joshua Wesley Deckard (Vicki), Angela Elizabeth Mitry (Nagy), and Lydia Michele Wilson (Ralph), all of Hobe Sound with the exception of Angela Mitry residing in Sydney, Australia. Nine grandchildren, Sherlyn Deckard, Joseph B. Deckard, Emily McGuire, Amber Deckard, Amanda Bailey, Timothy Mitry, Justin W. Deckard, Melody Mitry and Madison Wilson. Four great-grandchildren, Allegra Ruggerio, Bryanna Ruggerio, Taylor Deckard, and Aryiah Deckard. Tony Ruggerio and Gracie McGuire preceded great-grandma in death.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Everette and Delilah Sowders and a brother Frederick Sowders all of Bloomington, Indiana.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail in Jupiter. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014, 1:00 p.m., at Hobe Sound Bible Church. Internment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta.
