Very sorry to hear about your dad.  Speaking from the memories of a moped-riding high school kid, I remember him as the guy perfectly described in the obituary

Words cannot describe the impact your life has made on Earth or how greatly you are missed by everyone. You were the most fantastic grandfather we could have ever hoped for and I will never have Munchkins from Dunkin Donuts without thinking of you :)Your feisty demeanor could never outshine your heart of gold. Thank you for being you and never holding back. Love and miss you so much already.

God bless Mr. Gooch, or "JACK!" as we referred to him, but only behind his back. I always enjoyed his wise guy remarks he had for Johns friends, I always knew it meant he liked us.

Dear Dad, 
  These are the words I spoke at church in honor of you today:  

Eulogy-
  I would like to thank everyone for coming to celebrate the life of the greatest man I've ever known, my Dad, Jack Gutjahr.  
  My Dad was a man of few words, but when he spoke people listened and learned from him.  The men he commanded on the North Bergen Fire Dept. revered him as a leader and a friend, and they knew when the bell rang he would do everything in his power to get them home safely.  He selflessly risked his life for 30 years to help complete strangers, not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
  When we were younger my Mom and Dad divorced, and he made sure that my maternal grandmother had a place to live and was taken care of, not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
  Every time one of us kids had a baseball, football, or soccer game we never had to wonder if he would be there because we already knew he would be.  He was just that type of guy.  Some of my greatest memories of growing up are just sitting in a row boat catching crabs or on a dock fishing with him.  Funny how sometimes an old song comes on the radio and you're 12 years old again in the backyard cooking hot dogs and playing catch.  Just remembering how great of a childhood he made sure you had.
  When I got older and started my own family, I said if I could do half as good of a job as him I would have done well.  If I could be half the man he was I would be a good man, I hope my kids think of me the way I think of him because he meant everything to me.  He taught me more than I could possibly tell all of you here today.  The one thing I can say he taught me - more than anything else - is to love your family because in the end family is all you have.  It is the only thing that matters.
  Although we lived far apart from one another later in life, my brother, sister, and I are grateful for the time we had together with him.  Recently, in the hospital, we saw the big, strong man we knew at his weakest and most vulnerable and we learned a new lesson how to face mortality with dignity and respect.  I'm glad my Dad found the love of his life in his beautiful Diana.  I know she was his greatest accomplishment and he loved her with all his heart. 
  He will be greatly missed by everyone that he touched here on Earth, but everyone that was lucky enough to have known him is better off and the world is a better place because of him.

The Gutjahr Family: I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Jack. I had the pleasure of working with him in the NBFD for many years. He was a good man with a heart of gold and a sense of humor that always made him fun to be around. We will all sorely miss him, God bless you all.

Our deepest and sincere condolences go to all in the Gutjahr family. Jack was a great guy. I greatly enjoyed playing golf with Jack over the last twenty years, as did many of his golf buddies at West Palm Beach G.C. My prayers are with Him , and may he rest in peace. We were sorry to hear of Jack's passing.  We played golf with him many times in our many years spending the winters in Florida. Our thoughts are with you and your family.  "Uncle Tony" and John Fedon (Nazareth and Bethlehem PA)

To the family, very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I played a lot of Golf over the years with Jack. A great character. A gentle tough guy. A man's man to be sure. God Bless.

Prayers sent out to everyone. Jack was a great friend to my father. I can still hear my parents, and Jack and Rita laughing until all hours of the morning when they got together. Jack was wickedly funny and made a huge change in this world because his job helped others. God Bless.

Dearest Diana.....so sorry for this loss.....and so happy the Good Lord has promised up happiness in the next life....Joe and I are keeping you and the family in our hearts and prayers....we love you! We know the sorrow is deep but the hope is eternal!
