

James Dukes Evans, also known as Jimmy Evans, passed away peacefully at his home in Hobe Sound, Florida, on September 10th, 2023. He was born on June 1st, 1937, in Atlanta, Georgia, to his loving parents, L.P. Evans and Addie Lucille Dukes.
Jimmy is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Marilyn Evans, and their children, James Evans Jr. and Laurie Champion. He was a beloved grandfather to Sterling, Cole, Jake, Scott, Elizabeth Field, and Mary Page, as well as a cherished great-grandfather to Eva,Reagan, and William.
Jimmy attended Miami Edison High School, Horace Mann Jr. High School, and Morningside Elementary School. He furthered his education at the University of Florida, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Social Fraternity and Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity.
Jimmy's career was a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. He started in the automotive business alongside his father, L.P. Evans, and quickly became the youngest franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer in the United States. He made significant contributions to various organizations, including serving as President of the Miami Independent Automobile Dealers Association and Chairman of the Board of the Mercedes-Benz National Dealer Council. He received numerous awards for his outstanding contributions, including the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award. He later ventured into community banking and was active with several community banks, holding positions such as Advisory Director and Chairman of the Board.
Jimmy was a dedicated community member, actively involved with the Better Business Bureau of South Florida, Boy Scouts of South Florida, Khoury League Softball, and Hillsdale College Parents Board, where he was a President's Club Member and Endowment Scholarship Benefactor.
Beyond his professional life, Jimmy had a passion for boating, raising turtles, tending to orchids, and collecting and repairing antique music boxes.
