

Joseph graduated from Worcester High School of Commerce on June 25, 1941 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 8, 1942. In the following 3 years, 3 months, and 29 days he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, taught gunnery for bomber crews, volunteered for combat duty and spent 1 year, 1 month and 7 days on combat duty in the European Theatre of operations. After volunteering for combat duty SSG Ottaviano earned and was awarded the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters. His record includes battles and campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Additionally, he received a European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. SSG Ottaviano was honorably discharged on 30, October 1945. Subsequently to his discharge on 10, May 1948; he was offered an appointment in the newly created U.S. Air Force Reserve as a 2nd Lieutenant. Joseph chose to concentrate on his family and career. In the following 51 years Joseph built a highly successful career in procurement.
Joseph built upon his hard work, legacy of service and his belief in basic American values by becoming a patriarch of a large family. With Gertrude, (deceased), his wife of 68 years, he set an example and imbued his descendants with a belief in America, patriotism, the sanctity of family, ethics and hard work. This family currently consists of 3 daughters, Patricia, Lisa and Trudy (deceased), 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Aycock-Riverside Funeral and Cremation Center, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, FL 33458. A funeral service will begin at
11:00 AM. The committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Rd, Tequesta, FL 33469.
