

Joyce Marie Mankin (née Cabel), 80, passed away peacefully on March 05, 2024 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Eldest daughter of Lewis William (Bill) and Marie Cabel, Joyce was born in Queens, NY and grew up in East Northport, NY. She graduated from Northport High School, earned her BA from Ramapo College and later her Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School at age 50.
She is survived by her sister Carol DeLuca (and husband Thomas) of Queens, NY and her brother-in-law Robert Moriarty of Port Republic, MD, widower of her baby sister Debra. Her beloved family consists of her son Seth Mankin (and wife Tara) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, her daughter Laura Stevens of Newton, MA, her daughter Gina Cacavella (and husband Mark) of Richmond, VA and seven grandchildren: Juliet, Claire and Jonathan Mankin, William and Katherine Stevens, and Gianna and Nicholas Cacavella. She will be sorely missed by her family and all who have come to know her.
Joyce had a tenacious spirit and steadfast determination that continued for her entire life. She spent her career working with technology, the majority of which was as a computer programmer. After attending law school and practicing law briefly, she returned to technology and worked as a Director of Technology for an NYC college.
After moving from NYC to New Jersey to raise her children with her then-husband Robert Mankin, she served as the President of the Board of Education for Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Joyce then moved to Grandview, NY then Wilton, CT to be close to her daughter Laura and family. When her health trouble began, she relocated to Port Republic, very near her sister Debra and Robert Moriarty. After the untimely passing of Debra, she relocated to Palm Beach Gardens, FL to be closer to her son Seth and his family.
She was an avid reader, favoring mysteries and biographies. She was known for her love and compassion for animals, saving a special place in her heart for her dogs: Poppy, Sabrina, Ginger, Zoe, Hemingway, Isabel, Sasha, Pumpkin, and Greyson. Her other interests include knitting, photography, electronics (especially gadgets), jewelry, watches, fountain pens, and handbags.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s name may be made to: The Kefalas-Pinto Foundation, c/o Desiree Anderson, 2525 S. Croatan Highway, Suite 1C, Nags Head, NC 27959, a foundation dedicated to the memory of Doris Kefalas-Pinto, which provides much needed support to myriad charitable causes. Joyce’s grandson Jonathan is currently volunteering with The Foundation.
A graveside service for Joyce will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 19351 SE County Line Road, Tequesta, FL 33469.
