Affectionately known as Mom and Lollie, Laura was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to Howard Gene and Julia Frances Lewis.
A devoted wife, she was married to her surviving husband, Jack (Pat) Patterson, for 51 years. They met in their childhood hometown, Kosciusko, Mississippi and attended college a stone's throw away from each other—Mississippi College for Women (Laura) and Mississippi State University (Pat). In May 1972, they graduated from college one weekend, were married the next on May 21st, and moved to Florida the following weekend where they resided together for nearly 52 years. Laura was a loving mother to her children Adam (of College Station, Texas with wife Carly) and Abigail (of Orlando, Florida with husband Jason Souza) and loved being “Lollie” to her four grandkids, Madelyn, Molly, Jack, and Finn. Her love for them was boundless.
Laura moved to Miami, Florida in 1972 where she was an early childhood development teacher, American Sign Language instructor, and in the choir at Wayside Baptist Church. While in Miami, she made many lifelong friendships which she deeply cherished. She and Pat moved to Jupiter in 1986 where Laura poured her life into her kids as a busy homemaker and dutiful advocate for her daughter’s medical care. Laura helped to establish the first branch of Youth for Christ in north Palm Beach County, served in various capacities at the kids’ schools, provided oversight and curriculum for church nurseries, and volunteered at a pregnancy center nurturing young soon-to-be mothers.
Laura had a passion for baking, cake decorating, art festivals, bargain sales, Cherokee heritage, cruising, volunteerism, grandkid milestones, and Mississippi State and University of Central Florida sports. She had a heart for the Lord and her church family. Left to cherish her memory are her immediate family, brothers (Howard and Randy Lewis), cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Laura’s family wishes to express their gratitude to Yvonne’s steadfast care giving presence, all the wonderful medical personnel at Jupiter Medical Center, and Hospice.
