

Mary Jo was born in Rochester, Indiana on March 15, 1928. She had one brother, Richard (Dick) Sowers, who predeceased her. She and her late husband, William (Bill) Marion Barnett, both attended Purdue University. Mary Jo received her degree in both Interior Design and Home Economics. She later received her master’s degree in Education from Florida Atlantic University. Mary Jo and her husband, Bill, moved from Indiana to North Palm Beach, Florida in 1955, five years after they were married. Mary Jo was a schoolteacher here in Palm Beach County for over 30 years. She taught at both Jupiter Elementary School and Allamanda Elementary School. She was an avid tennis player and loved to play Bridge. She was happiest when studying the Scriptures and loved hosting Bible studies in her home. As a woman of faith, her church activities and Bible Studies were very important to her.
Mary Jo is survived by her son, Gary Irwin Barnett (Kay Barnett), and two grandchildren, Bryce William Barnett (Abigail Watkins Barnett) and Shelby Jo (Barnett)Taylor (Cody Taylor).
She is predeceased by her daughter, Debra Jo (Barnett) Baker, son Mark Steven Barnett, and son William (Billy) Barnett.
A memorial service will be held for Mary Jo at Family Church in the Farms: 13475 W. Indiantown Road, Jupiter, FL. on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00PM. This will be a casual time of celebrating Mary Jo’s life and sharing memories of her.
