Born on July 14, 1938 in Lansing, Michigan, Victoria moved to Lake Park, Florida when she was seven years old and thrived in the warmer climate. She attended Palm Beach Junior College and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Victoria held various jobs including Publicity Director at the iconic Biltmore Hotel in Palm Beach when she was just 19 years old, writing magazine and newspaper articles chronicling the social scene in Palm Beach in the late 1950s.
While working at Pratt & Whitney, Victoria met Bob Miller after being set up on a blind date by her best friend, Joan. The couple married in 1961 and moved to California. She graduated from Whittier College in California with a dual degree in English/Psychology. After living in California for just a few years, they returned to South Florida and raised their family of three children, living along the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter. Bob and Victoria were happily married for 60 years.
Victoria and Bob joined the First Presbyterian Church of Tequesta in 1965. She was an active church member, serving as a deacon, youth group leader, and Girl Scout leader. Victoria also worked at the dental office of Dr. Al Nessmith for over 12 years enjoying daily chats with local Tequesta patients. Friendships were very dear to Victoria and she loved being a “Fredricka,” which was a close-knit group of friends who lovingly supported each other for over 50 years after having a raucous dinner together at Frederick’s Bar in Palm Beach.
A lifelong Anglophile, Victoria accumulated an extensive British Mystery collection, often baked scones for afternoon teas, and traveled to the United Kingdom whenever she could. She was an active supporter of community theater and the arts, producing a variety of programs for local performances. It was Victoria’s greatest joy to have her home overflowing with family and friends. The Miller house was the hub for the family’s laughter-filled social activities for over fifty years. She absolutely adored her five grandchildren and spoiled them every chance she got.
She wanted her children to have memorable travel experiences because she believed that “the unexpected is the charm of life”. Victoria and Bob extensively traveled with their young family to 48 States and throughout Canada on lengthy summer road trips. She continued to travel with her family around the world well into her 70s. Victoria never lost her zeal for adventure!
Victoria was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Helen Meeker; her grandmother, Audie Anderson; her father, Byron Longyear; her mother, Coila Anderson Longyear and her husband, Bobby Cecil Miller.
