

Betty graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy on Oahu. She worked at Kula Hospital’s nursing department and was also their union steward. She left the hospital to become the Secretary for the United Public Work, Maui Office, where she eventually retired from. She was a former President of Kula AARP Chapter 4937, President of the Kula Camellia Club, State President of U.P.W. Retirees Chapter 646 (for 10 yrs.), member of the Board of Directors of M.E.O, Secretary/Treasurer of M.E.O. Board of Directors, A recipient of the Outstanding Older American Award for year 2000, nominated for the Governor’s Kilohana award and the AARP Andres awards. For many years she was part of the seniors Kula Lunch Program. She coordinated their lunches and activities with the program representative from Kaunoa Senior Services.
She enjoyed embroidery, crafting, socializing, writing, reading and volunteering.
She is survived by: 2 sons, Daniel (Lisa) De Lima Sr., Steven (Nalani) De Lima; 2 daughters, Cindy (Joe Kanahuna) Phillips, Susan Gomes; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9-10:30am on Saturday, January 4, 2024 at St. Joseph Church in Makawao; Eulogy will begin at 10:30am; Mass starts at 11am; Burial will follow at 1pm at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku.The family would like to express gratitude to Islands Hospice and Malia for providing care in her final days.
