One of Hāna, Maui’s beloved kamaʻāina kūpuna, Daisy Kaeka Mailou Lind passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born in Papahawahawa, Hāna, on February 25, 1930, Daisy was the daughter of Daniel Keanini Kaeka Mailou Sr. and Agnes Hōlani Kaʻiewe-Mailou. She was lovingly guided in her early years by her cherished grandmother, Heneli ʻAikau, and was the last surviving sibling of the Mailou ʻOhana, preceded in death by Elijah, Paul, Joseph, Ahmoon, Daniel, Emma, Kalani, and Mary—a family deeply rooted in the land and history of Hāna.
Daisy was predeceased by her husband, John Crichton “Jack” Lind, and their son, John (Tweetie) Lind Jr. She is survived by her children: Terrance (Anita), Jeffery (Doria), Greg (Eunice), and Bruce (Veronica), along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended ʻohana who continue to carry her love and legacy forward.
Daisy was a devoted weaver, preserving and sharing the cherished Hawaiian tradition of lauhala. She loved going holoholo, riding horses, and being surrounded by ʻohana and friends. Her kindness, strength, and deep love for her community touched generations.
Services will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului from 9:00AM to 1:00 PM, and on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Mary’s Church in Hāna. Public viewing will be from 9:00 AM, with Mass beginning at 11:00 AM.
Daisy’s life reflected grace, resilience, and aloha. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A hui hou, Tūtū… until we meet again.
