Born in Hawi, Hawaii, David’s life was one of vitality, commitment, and a deep sense of purpose, focused on his community and the causes he cared about, while maintaining his independent spirit. Throughout his life, he embraced challenges head-on and carved his own path, never afraid to speak his mind or take action when necessary. His presence was strong and unwavering, and his straightforward approach left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
David was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served a brief period during World War II. Following his military service, he spent more than thirty years working at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, where he earned a reputation for hard work and reliability. Though his professional accomplishments were significant, David’s impact was equally felt through his volunteer work and community involvement.
In retirement, David devoted himself to environmental conservation and community service, particularly focusing on land clean-up projects. Over the course of four decades, he worked tirelessly to improve his surroundings, earning recognition for his efforts, including the Governor’s Kilohana Award for Outstanding Volunteer. However, David never sought accolades for his work, his fulfillment came from knowing he was making a difference.
Although he preferred to maintain his independence, David had a deep sense of loyalty to the people and causes that mattered to him. He may not have been one for grand gestures or emotional displays, but his generosity and dedication to those around him were evident in his actions. Whether helping neighbors with tasks, volunteering his time, or offering practical support, David’s legacy is built on his quiet but impactful contributions.
