October 21, 1927 – May 22, 2014
Dr. Aquilizan was born in Ballestros, Cagayan, Philippines to Rosa Arauag and Francisco Aquilizan Sr. His career as a physician and surgeon began at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila where he met his first wife, Alejandra (deceased, married 50 years). His thirst for education and advancement in the medical field eventually took him to Iowa and New Jersey where he gained experiences in surgery as well as honed his skills as a family practice physician. His chance meeting with another renowned Maui physician led him and his family to Maui in July 1972 where he joined medical practices with Dr. Jose Romero. Prior to his retirement in 1998, Dr. Aquilizan was a sole practitioner at the Maui Clinic for over 20 years. His dedicated care and compassion served generations of Maui’s families, which created many long lasting bonds that spanned over many decades. Dr. Aquilizan was a person of precision and creativity that reflected in his medical practice and his second passion as an artist. His artistic medium was paint & canvas where he painted various subjects, mainly, orchids that Alejandra grew at their home. He never considered selling his paintings for profit, rather he generously would donate a painting to a charitable cause. He preferred to gift his paintings to family and close friends. His wisdom, guidance, and kindness will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alejandra, his parents, and his siblings, Alfredo, Erlinda, & Flaviano. He leaves behind his son, Rolando(Beth) Aquilizan, daughters Marie (Elmer) Baysa, Annabelle(Brad) Domenighini, Angela(Fred) Winter; eight grandchildren, Nicole, Erinn, Andrea, Matthew, Noelle, Frederick, Ben, and Selena; his current wife, Angelita De la Pena, her children, Rina & Julius; and seven siblings, Fernanda, Ildefonso, Antonio, Francisco Jr., Amadeo, Celestino, Carmelita.
