Dylan Ryuichi Dang Hatano, of Hilo, was called home on July 13, 2020, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born December 26, 1995, in Toyohashi, Japan, The Mighty Ryu fought a good fight and left to join his kupuna bathed in the light of love. Not just the love of his ohana, but in the love of countless others, many of whom never even got to meet him. From Alaska to California to Georgia and back to Hawaii, he was everybody’s Mighty
Ryu. Known as the honorary deacon of Lighthouse Outreach Center of Hilo, it felt like the entire world rooted for the Mighty Ryu through every adventure, down to his last breath. He is survived by his mother, Leah Dang; brother, Lucas Hatano; and hanai mother, Jodi Kauhi. Also survived by father, Hiroshi Hatano; aunt, Aina Dang (Cristy Chung); cousins, Cidney Toutai (Salesi), Michelle Dang, Leia and Emma Brownson, and Olivia Chung-Woo; numerous uncles, aunties and cousins from California, Hawaii, Washington, Japan and Hong Kong. The family would like to sincerely thank Ballard Funeral Services Moanalua and Ballard Funeral Services Hilo for their exemplary care and service.
An online Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
