

Kenneth Lynn Quilantang, Sr., 78, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Hilo, Hawaii. Born on September 5, 1946, in Seattle, Washington, he lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family.Kenneth proudly served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. His bravery and sacrifice were recognized with a Purple Heart. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at the University of Hawaii before dedicating his career to helping others. He worked counseling at-risk youth at Waipahu High School and later served with Immigration and Naturalization Services in Seattle, Washington.A devoted husband, Kenneth shared 52 wonderful years with his wife, Thabita Quilantang. Together, they built a loving family that includes their children: Kenneth Quilantang Jr., Gabriel Quilantang, and Kristina Bermoy. He was also a cherished grandfather to Kainoa Quilantang, Shaye Quilantang, JC Quilantang, Hope Bermoy, and Violet Quilantang. He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan Quilantang; his brothers Francis De'Angelo and Richard Quilantang; and his sister Pearl Quilantang.Kenneth had a zest for life and found joy in many passions. He was an avid archer and martial artist who also had a love for motorcycles. He enjoyed playing board games with his family—especially when he could sneak in some playful cheating at Monopoly. Above all else, he loved to laugh and spend time with those closest to him. His warmth and humor made him not only a beloved husband, father, and grandfather but also a loyal friend.A man of faith, Kenneth followed the teachings of Islam throughout his life. His kindness and wisdom left an indelible mark on those who knew him.A Celebration of Life will be held on March 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bob Oke Long Lake Community Building, located at 5100 Long Lake Rd., Port Orchard, Washington. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Kenneth. A military honors service will be held at Punchbowl on Oahu, April 11, 2025 at 2pm.His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
