

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lei Ann Sakugawa-Souza, who left us on March 9, 2025, at the age of 48. Born on January 28, 1977, Lei Ann was a radiant soul whose love and kindness touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her beloved boyfriend, Joshua Lindsey Rodrigues Perry, and their two cherished sons, Jordan Kahiapo Perry and David Wallace Rodrigues Perry. Lei Ann was a devoted mother whose nurturing spirit and unwavering support were the foundation of her family. Her sons were her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to ensuring they felt loved and valued.
Lei Ann is the daughter of Lorelei Akie Sakugawa and William John Souza Sr., and she is also survived by her loving sisters, Sheena Ann (Michael) Kuwashima and Sheree Yukiko (Iokepa) Zarate, and her loving brother William John (Mona) Sakugawa-Souza Jr. She was a beloved aunt to her nieces, Hi'ilani Yukiko (Kobe) Sakugawa-Souza, Nanea Zarate, Keaoli'i Zarate, Te'alohi Zarate, Akasha Kuwashima, Zenisha Kuwashima, and Miliana-Zae Raquinio Sakugawa-Souza, as well as her grandniece, Kalena Marie Yukiko Rego. She was the beloved niece to Lynne Sakugawa, Noreen Lane, Diane (Dan) Siangco, Lisa Sakugawa, Norine (Mike) Minor, Jon Sakugawa and Daryl Sakugawa. Lei Ann's family was her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Growing up in the picturesque surroundings of Iao Valley, Kahului, Waikapu, Kihei and Oma’opio, Lei Ann's childhood was filled with adventure and love. She attended Wailuku Hongwanji Preschool, Kahului Elementary School, Maui High School, and the Alternative Learning Center, where she formed lasting friendships and created beautiful memories.
A true animal lover, Lei Ann shared her home with dogs, guinea pigs, and even pot-bellied pigs, reflecting her compassionate nature and her ability to connect with all living beings. Her family will forever remember her big heart and her selfless spirit, always putting others first and teaching them the valuable lessons of life.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului on April 6, 2025, from 8 AM to 1 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their love, stories, and memories of Lei Ann, who will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Though she has departed from this world, Lei Ann's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace, dear Lei Ann; your light will forever shine in our hearts.
