Leina Marie Awai

Leina Marie Awai, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this world at her home in Kula on October 18, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, under the care of Hospice Maui.

Leina was 89 years young, a force of nature unto herself, and as vibrant in her final days as she was during her exceptional life. Born on February 1, 1935, she set the stage early on for a wonderfully rich life of love, laughter and good times! A straight shooter, calling the shots to the very end, you always knew where you stood with her.

Leina’s legacy continues through her children Dannelle Abbey (Mike); Daniel Awai III (Lisa); Kaui Awai-Dickson (Keith) and a ‘herd’ of grand, great-grand, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.With the passing of her beloved Duke preceding her, along with her parents John D Kaupiko and Alice "Girlie" Makaena Kaupiko, and siblings Joan Lei Williams (Brother) and John D Kaupiko Jr. "Weeboy” (May), her heart never truly parted with those she cared for and their spirits undoubtedly embraced her with open arms as she crossed the horizon.
