
Mark was a Principle Broker for Prudential Iwado Realty on Maui and was ranked among one of the top property management and real estate firms statewide. He was a graduate of Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio and played football. He then graduated from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio in 1970 with a Bachelor’s in Architecture. Mark served as President of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and served in the Army Reserves from 1970-1975. He grew up sailing on Cowan Lake, Ohio and participated at a national level in Major Thistle class sailing events: Mid Winters East champion 1974 and 1979, won the Nationals sailing competition in 1976 for Thistle class, and won Barnet trophy 1978 and 1979 (highest finisher for the last 3 Nationals).
Mark moved to Maui in 1985. He formed Iwado Realty with Tamio Iwado in 1986. He was an avid cyclist and also enjoyed travel and hiking.
He is survived by his spouse, Julie Houck Gilliland, of Spreckelsville, Maui; daughters, Lee Gilliland of Denver, Ohio, Anne Gilliland of Denver, Ohio, Toby Tyler of Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers, Robert Gilliland of Coronado, California, Rex Gilliland of Rocky River, Ohio, Tim Gilliland of Troy, Ohio, and Tom Gilliland of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, Maisy Shull, Grayson Shull, and Truth Tyler Savage.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 12 at Keawala’i Church, 5300 Makena Road in Kihei. Family reception will begin at 9 a.m. and the services at 10 a.m., request Aloha wear.
