

Pete reunited with his beloved wife Lorraine in heaven September 1, 2024. He was born September 5,1947 in Wailuku, Maui to Pedro Hilario and Dorothy Clara Elaban. Pete went to Waihe’e Elementary and proudly graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Dec. 1966 as a private E1 and served in Vietnam. Upon leaving the U.S. Army, he worked on the railroad and Straub Automotive in New Jersey. He married the love of his life Lorraine in Dec. of 1969. In 1982 Pete moved his family to Maui and where he opened his own Auto Body and Repair Shop named Akamai Auto which was successful; he did amazing work fixing cars. He was a perfectionist at it’s finest. After several years Pete closed his shop and worked as an auto body man for Ford Motors and County of Maui before retiring.
Pete was an exceptional golfer, he loved playing golf with his friends. He also enjoyed diving, fishing, cooking, and spending time with his dog Ellie.
Pete is predeceased by his wife Lorraine. Pete is survived by his children Peter (Laura) and Rene (Rusty) Kahaleanu. His sister Shirley Calunod. Grandchildren: Josphine Hilario Sweat, Nicholas Geddis, Brandon Hilario, Craig Hilario, Joseph and Jayson Kahaleanu, and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, September 20th at St Ann’s Church in Waihe’e. Visitation will be held 9am-10am with mass to follow at 11:00am. Burial will be 2pm at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.
