Yolanda U’ilani Dizon was a woman who embraced her Hawaiian heritage through love and dedication. She was very passionate about Preserving and Perpetuating her culture. Yolanda U’ilani Dizon attended countless court dates, meetings and in-person testimonies, regarding the Preservation and Protection of The Land (‘Aina) and the water (Wai). U’ilani was part of Na Koa Kau I Ka Meheu O Na Kupuna and Pu’ukohola ceremonies where she had to go through the rights of passage. Yolanda was very courageous and a very strong mana wahine. Not only did she love her culture, but Yolanda was also a woman of God. Her last church she attended was at the Word of Life Church. Her faith in God is what kept Yolanda strong until the end.
Yolanda Dizon was the most kind and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunty, cousin, and friend. She loved to read books. But most of all Landa loved to be surrounded by her sons, her daughters, her 7 grandchildren and her entire family.
Yolanda U’ilani Dizon loved her job and the people she worked with loved her highly opinionated, upbeat attitude. She worked at The Lahaina Book Store at the Wharf Cinema Center. She also worked at The Lahaina Laundromat and the Ritz Carlton for many years. She was very successful and was depended on by her peers. But as soon as her first grandson, Ka’ike, was born, she turned to her husband and said, “dad I’m going to quit my job to watch our grandson.” Without any hesitation, they both agreed, and the rest was history. Yolanda cared for and loved all her grandchildren.
Yolanda was called to heaven on May 26th, 2023, in Kaua’ula Valley, Maui surrounded by her family.
