

John Misuraca, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully May 11, 2026, in Kamloops, BC at the age of 94.
John was born on October 13, 1931, in Blairmore, Alberta, the sixth child of Antonio and Maria Misuraca. The family moved to Nelson, BC in 1937 where John attended St. Joseph School and Nelson Junior High School.
John began his railroad career at Canadian Pacific Railway at the young age of sixteen in Nelson, BC, starting as a Wiper before being promoted to Fireman. In 1965, he earned his Locomotive Engineer certification. His railroad career spanned more than 41 years and included time working in Cranbrook, the Tadanac Yard, freight service out of the Nelson terminal, and later the Revelstoke Division after transferring there in August 1974. He was an active member of Brotherhood Locomotive Engineers Division 657, Revelstoke, BC.
One of the proudest moments of John’s career came on May 4, 1989, when he and Donald Popplewell were chosen as the engineers for the inaugural train commemorating the completion of The Roger’s Pass Expansion Project. He made his last trip operating Via Rail Train No.1 the last transcontinental rail service on CPR line from Revelstoke to Kamloops before retiring on February 28, 1990.
In 1952, John met the love of his life, June Sutherland and they married on May 23, 1955. They were married for 65 years and raised two sons, Rodney and Richard sharing a wonderful life filled with family, friendship and travel until June’s passing in 2020.
John enjoyed fishing, baseball and golf throughout his life. In his younger years, he was the pitcher of the Nelson Outlaws baseball team and later became a proud member of the Revelstoke Golf Club for 30 years, golfing well into his 80s.
After retirement, John and June spent many winters travelling. They often visited June’s sister Loretta and her husband in St. George, Utah, and travelled throughout the American Southwest. They also cherished visits with close friends in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Among their favourite adventures was a memorable trip to Australia. John and June also treasured many winters in Waikiki after being invited by close friends Gus and Elaine Balahura. What began as one trip turned into 12 wonderful vacations spent enjoying the sun, sand, ocean, and companionship of lifelong friends from Nelson and the Okanagan.
John was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for more than 50 years and a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, where he served in many leadership roles, including Grand Knight and Secretary Treasurer and achieved his Fourth Degree. John and June were also active members and volunteers of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, June; his parents; his sisters Marietta, Jenette, Emma, and Esther; and his brother Frank.
He leaves behind his loving sons, Rodney and Richard (Melissa); grandchildren Michelle (Candace), Anthony, Matthew, Samuel, and Alexandra; and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Adam, and Dan, along with many extended family members and friends who will remember him with love and admiration.
The family would like to thank his extended family and friends for all the love and support they showed John over the years. A special thank you to the medical staff at Royal Inland Hospital and Kamloops Senior Village for their special care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in Kamloops, BC on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. A luncheon will be held afterward at Holy Family Parish.
