Margie Buchan, 89, passed away on February 17, 2026 at the Pine Grove Care Centre in Kamloops, BC.
Margie was born on November 16, 1936 to Bert and May Harrington in what was then Langley Prairie, BC. The family returned to the Princeton area shortly after her birth and Margie spent her childhood and a good portion of her adult life there.
Margie met, fell in love with, and married William (Bill) Buchan in Princeton and they had three children before moving to Kamloops in 1975.
After starting her work life with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce as a teller, Margie changed careers to work as a secretary and bookkeeper in both Princeton and Kamloops for the school districts. She loved seeing and interacting with the children and they loved the many, many gingerbread houses she made and gave away at Christmas time.
Margie is survived by her daughter Shelley (Hoto) and grandchildren Tiernan, Shae, and Brin as well as her brothers Fred (Shirley) and Lon and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Margie lived long with a very large family and they were the most important pieces of her life. Family always came first and then the dogs – there were so many pups in her life that brought her so much joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, her sons Brian and Glen, her grandson Christian, her sisters Ann and Lorraine, her niece Rene, and most recently her brother Herb.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schoening Funeral Service, 513 Seymour Street, Kamloops, BC. A reception will follow.
Interment of Margie’s ashes will be held at the Princeton Cemetery at a future date.
