October 27, 1932 – July 20, 2017
Monty passed away peacefully at the age of 84, at The Hamlets, surrounded by his daughters.
He is survived by his four daughters, Nadine (Dave), Roxanne (Fred), Carey and Wanda. He also leaves behind his brother Vern, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen (nee Goodrich), daughter Marlene, parents Melvin and Mary-Anne (nee Grant), 2 brothers Melvin (Jack) and Wayne and grandson Mondred (Monty).
Monty, the eldest of 4 boys, was born on a homestead in the Rural Municipality of Hillsburg, Roblin Manitoba. He was nearly a year old when his family made their move to B.C. Due to work, the family moved throughout the province, Kelowna, Prince George, Smithers, Prince Rupert, and Port Alberni, finally settling in Kamloops in 1948.
Monty married Eileen Goodrich Christmas day, 1953 and together they had 5 daughters.
He worked in the Forest Industry for many years. In the early days he logged with a team of horses and ran heavy duty equipment. He purchased (with a partner) a small mill and was an owner/operator of a logging truck. He also worked as a Millwright, Auto Mechanic and a Body Man among other trades.
If you needed something fixed, you called Monty. He believed in working hard and always applied his very best.
In 1971 he moved to the coast where he lived for twenty years until his retirement. It was there he purchased a bus (his first of three), and with great pride converted it into his new home giving him the freedom to pack up and travel at whim. His love for hunting and living in the wilderness took him to Nasko for a few years but eventually decided to return to his home town of Kamloops.
He loved to have company. For those who knew him there was an unwritten rule - come to visit you were to bring quarters to play 'no-peaky' - straighten your cards!
Hillside Cemetery is Monty’s final resting place alongside his wife (Eileen) who passed January 7, 2014.
He was loved and will be missed by all.
The family would like to thank The Hamlets of Kamloops for caring for Dad for the past five years.
