

Russ was a husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a respected veterinarian in the Kamloops community. He began his career in 1971 and went on to establish and own Riverside Small Animal Hospital, where he cared for generations of pets and their families with skill and dedication. Following his retirement in 2004, Russ continued to give back to his profession by serving 12 years on the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association Tribunal, helping to uphold the standards of veterinary medicine in British Columbia.
A committed community member, Russ loved being involved in locaI politics and giving back. His time on Kamloops City Council, where he served from 1984 to 1999, was something he was especially proud of. He enjoyed every part of the work-from tackling local issues to connecting with people-and cared deeply about helping shape the future of the city he loved . Before that, he served as a Kamloops School Board Trustee from 1979 to 1984. Russ was also a proud member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Kamloops for 53 years, always valuing service, connection, and giving back to his community.
Beyond his professional life, Russ was known for his love of traveling, gardening, and boating-that allowed him to connect with people in meaningful ways. He was a longtime, active member of the Dallas Barnhartvale Baptist Church, where he and his wife Syndy were involved in the church community.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Syndy; daughters Tami Kohonen (spouse Kari) and Laurie Wiley (spouse Peter); and his grandchildren Austin, Jessica, and Amanda, children of Tami and Kari.
A private celebration of life will be held for immediate family at the Dallas Barnhartvale Baptist Church.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
