
Our hearts are heavy, yet brimming with cherished memories, as we announce the passing of Aileen Mahealani “Mahi” A'i, who left her earthly body on June 2, 2025, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born on September 28, 1963, in the very same vibrant city, Mahi lived a life as colorful and bright as her infectious smile.
Mahi was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Mitsuo Hamamoto Sr. and Aileen Hamamoto. She was a treasured sister to Joleen Hanaulani (Stanton) Akana, Charleen Nalani Barber, and Joseph "Joey" Mitsuo (Ronnie) Hamamoto Jr. and aunty to many nieces and nephews.She was married to Chad Richard Kaleihulumamo Lindsey A'i Sr. Her greatest joy was found in her family, especially her son, Chad (CJ) Richard Kaleihulumamo Lindsey Jr. (Bailey) A'i, whom she affectionately called "CJ Bunny," and her precious granddaughter, Leia Kaipoaloha'alaanuheaokaiulani Tomiko Lindsey A'i, who was truly the light of her life.
Mahi's vibrant journey began at the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus, where she graduated in 1981. It was there that her beautiful voice shone as a proud member of the Kamehameha Schools Concert Glee Club. Her educational adventures continued as she pursued her higher education at Brigham Young University in Provo, graduating in 1988 in Family, Home and Social Services. While at BYU, Mahi was also a dynamic part of the Lamanite Generation, sharing her talent and culture with audiences. Following her academic achievements, Mahi dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to JW Marriott, where she brought her characteristic warmth and dedication to her work.
A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mahi held various callings throughout her life, always serving with immense dedication. Her commitment to her faith led her to serve a full-time mission in the Paraguay Asuncion Mission, speaking Spanish and touching countless lives. She particularly enjoyed working with the youth of the church, finding profound fulfillment as a Seminary teacher, Seminary Supervisor, and Young Women Leader.
Mahi's spirit was pure joy and laughter, a force of nature that brightened every room she entered. She was a creative soul, a master scrapbooker who meticulously preserved life's precious moments, creating tangible legacies of love and memory. If you knew Mahi, you knew her deep affection for all things enchanting, from the whimsical world of Disney to the tender sentiments of Precious Moments figurines, and the comforting embrace of Winnie the Pooh. She was also a legendary shopper, capable of "shopping 'til she dropped" and always, always, on the hunt for a fantastic deal. Her adventurous spirit extended to her love for travel, having explored the wonders of Europe, Asia, and countless destinations all over the United States.
Mahi's aloha, kindness, and unwavering love touched countless lives. While we mourn her physical absence, we celebrate the vibrant, spirited life she lived and the beautiful legacy of joy she leaves behind. She will be profoundly missed, but her laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
