Hin Chow Wong was born in Hong Kong on March 19, 1934. At age 86, he went back to the Lord in his sleep at home. He married Ko Yuan Ho on October 5, 1961 and shared 38 years of wonderful marriage together.
He was a loving son of Wah On Wong & Wai Duen Cheng and a caring brother of Sau Yan Cheng,
Sze Yan Wong & Ping Chow. After he graduated from Chun Wah High School on 1952, he took Accounting Classes in the evening. He was an Accounting Clerk & School Driver prior to immigrating to Hawaii in October 1977. When he immigrated, he had to change careers due to the language barriers. He worked his way up from a kitchen helper in King Tsin Chinese Restaurant into a dinner cook at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani where he retired in October 1999. He was a wonderful father, supportive husband and a dedicated employee.
He belonged to St. Mary’s Church in Hong Kong, and attended Hawaii Chinese Baptist Church
(aka, Nu'uanu Baptist Church), when he moved to Hawaii. He enjoyed sharing his life stories, his views and experiences with others, especially with grandchildren and friends. He would fit in with any age group, which allowed everyone to enjoy his presence, regardless of age. He also enjoyed playing ping pong, telling jokes, and eating delicious food. He will be remembered for his positive spirit, his sense of humor and his generous selflessness.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Ed Yum, grandchildren, Ryan and Mindy; son, Phil (Michelle) Wong; daughter, Fanny (John) Chan, grandchildren, Ethan, Joellen, and Mnason; daughter, Carmen (Gemini) Yau, grandchildren Jonathan and Naomi. He was predeceased by his wife, Ko Yuan Ho and daughter, Kitty Yum.
The private burial service was held on May 18th at 9am at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Due to the current pandemic, viewing/visitation will be held virtually at a later date for his celebration of life. We thank family and friends who were always there for him. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared here or condolences can be sent to Carmen Yau, 2825 South King Street,
Apt 3004, Honolulu, HI 96826.
Rest in peace, Dad & Grandpa
