Homer Allen Akioka Sr.

Homer Allen Akioka, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 19, 1941, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the beloved son of Harry Akioka and Hilda Akioka and one of nine siblings.

He would start his career at the Pearl Harbor Shipyard as a general foreman. This would go on to become the largest and most defining chapter of his professional life. Over the years, Homer built a close-knit and enduring community of colleagues and friends—relationships that lasted long past his time at the shipyard. His leadership, steady presence, and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him.

Later, Homer continued his career with Delta Airlines, embracing a new chapter that eventually led him to Oregon. Even in a new environment, he brought the same values of integrity, dependability, and warmth. He remained with Delta until his retirement, leaving behind yet another circle of colleagues who admired and respected him.

He was the proud father of two sons: Homer A. Akioka Jr. (predeceased) and Steven Paul Akioka. After the passing of his wife, Elizabeth, Homer found comfort in caring for their small dog, Anela. He spent countless hours carving intricate designs into wood, often accompanied by the soothing sounds of Hawaiian music and Anela by his side.

Homer’s memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and love shared by those who knew him best. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his son: Steven P. Akioka, daughter-in-law Janice: Y.P. Akioka, granddaughter: Kamiko S. Akioka and siblings: Harry Akioka, Joyce Davis, Haverly Akioka, Happy Furtado, and Nohealani-Gail Akioka-Sarong.

Homer’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery & Funeral Services in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., the service will be held at 10:00 a.m., and burial will take place at 1:00 p.m.
