I taught Kristen physics her freshman year- I was looking up some of my favorite students out of curiosity when I found this and it really hurts. She was so funny and overwhelmingly full of life. Physics was not her favorite thing in the world, but she was dedicated to her success so I saw a lot of her outside of class. She was so witty and clever, I taught hundreds of students and she really  stands out. Some of the stuff she said still makes me smile. My mother died when I was in college- I know the pain is overwhelming. It doesn’t make sense, the unfairness wants to make you scream, the questions of what you could have done eat away at you- even though you know deep down that there was no way to know, no way to protect her. The hurt will always be there. That’s what love is. But you can find strength in who she was, the happiness she brought to others, the smiles she created, the lives she touched. I only knew Kristen for a few months but she made a real impression on me when few others did. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. It’s not fair and it shouldn’t be. She had so much more to give the world. The only thing I can say is we both know she would want you to live a full life, it’s okay to be happy again. Loss starts as an encompassing glacier of pain that seems endless, but it doesn’t have to be that way forever. I hope your family is doing okay, and I wish you all the best.

My Heart  was Hurting when I read about Kristen’s passing in the Punahou Bulletin.  I remember this sweet, bubbly and hard working young person,” our Kristen”. I had the joy and privilege to work alongside her when she continued the Pang family tradition of working as a student worker in our office at Punahou, just as her brothers Michael and Jonathan had done so before her. 

I always knew that Kristen came from a family that loved her very much, just by the positive , confident and caring way that she carried herself and seeing the way her brothers looked out for her. She was truly treasured.

Kristen, thank you for always being so happy and working so hard every time we saw you at work. I will always carry memories of your  beautiful and sincere smile in my heart. May you rest in love and peace.

Such a vibrant, spunky and loving soul taken from us much too soon. Many fond images riding her scooter and bicycle while we shared many weekends at the baseball field. Her extended friends and family enjoyed her lively spirit, loving attitude and family values. Our prayers for peace and comfort. Our God is an awesome Shepard and knows His sheep. Aloha oe... We love you sister.

I just learned for Pang-san's passing.  I am very sad.  

I remember her as my student in my Japanese class (high school) . She was always smiling and very friendly.  I truly enjoyed chatting with her in Japanese.  I can still hear her calling me "sensei!" with her big smile.    I am truly sorry for her  sudden loss.  I am praying that her wonderful memories live in your heart forever and give you reason to cherish at this moment.  I pray that God will comfort you and His loving kindness will fill your heart.  

May she rest in peace.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Pang and Family,

It is with a heavy heart that I send my very deepest sympathy to you. This news was sad and shocking, as Kristen, better known as Pang-san to me, was taken far too early from you. I spent many hours talking with Kristen while she was in high school, even beyond our Japanese classes (I taught her several semesters) and I know how much you all meant to her. Thank you for bringing her into this world so that she could be that special ray of sunshine in all of our lives.  All of the memories sent in before mine are true. I will always remember her for those many typically Kristen qualities. She was just her own person, and not afraid to go out of her way to be that kind, engaging, independent young woman, even while being a high school student. It is sad to think that we will not see her on this earth again. We wish you peace and healing, as I am sure Kristen would wish.  Remember her beautiful smile - it will help to sustain us all. We love you, Kristen. Rest In Peace…. 

I'm saddened to hear that Kristen has passed. 

She was really nice, sweet and proactive. As one of her academic advisors, I really enjoyed talking with her about her interests in Biology, Computer Science and Japanese and was looking forward to meeting her in another advising appointment to hear about what she had been up to.

I wish all the best for her family, friends, and loved ones. May she rest in peace.

Almost ten days have passed since I received the extremely sad news about one of the brightest, most cheerful, positive, thoughtful and sweetest young individuals I've ever met. I've been, and still am, trying to make peace with the thought that Pang-san, our beloved member of the Japanese 302 class, is not taking Japanese 401 this semester with her 302 classmates.

She was supposed to advance to 401, study hard and ace the class. She was supposed to participate in the University's study abroad program. And, while studying the language at its top university, she was supposed to be enjoying everything the Japanese culture has to offer like...yes, calligraphy!

She would often stay in the ZOOM room after class, and she and I talked a lot about many things. She seemed quite intrigued when I demonstrated, on the ZOOM whiteboard, how to write a Chinese character in three different calligraphy styles. Her eyes brightened up and she said "I want to learn calligraphy!" Pang-san was open-minded, extremely creative and was genuinely interested in learning a new language, new culture and new skills.

During one of our numerous 'zoom chat sessions', I casually said to her that she should be grateful to her parents for always being supportive and providing wonderful educational opportunities for their daughter. Pang-san nodded hard and gave me that huge smile, her famous, kid-like pure smile.

It hurts my heart to think Pang-san is gone...gone too early.
But, is she really? I would like to think that her super 'genki' spirit is flying all over the sky above us. Her laughter, her voice, her kid-like big smiles continue to reside in our hearts, in the warmest spot of our hearts.



Kris and I were glassblowing buddies. I want to share how creative she was. And friendly. She took art classes for fun not because of her major or minor but simply for enjoyment. She was the best in our class easily probably because she took glassblowing before, but she always wanted to fine-tune her skills. She tried over and over and over again on getting the right shape of a bowl. Despite them all coming out pretty great and galaxy like. She taught me a new color technique through that. She also showed me how to make glass paper weights, which she used in a project about space and planets. We got to see each other's creative processes while we talked story. When we talked it was about anything, we talked about life, home, friends, family, even pets. We talked about what music we liked, our other hobbies, and what we were thinking of doing in life. When she talked her chill and humorous tone and personality was always a vibrant energy. She often left me speechless or nervous to say anything. Kris was quirky, silly, and chill all at the same time. She almost always talked with a grin on her face, but during art and glassblowing she was focused. I had a mini crush on her back in the day because she was just so cool. Like seriously super cool. Like the definition of rad. She wasn't afraid to ask questions or comment on things. Not just in class, but to me as well. She authentically wanted to know me despite us initially just being work partners. She also was incredibly humble. She could barely take a compliment on her hard and wonderful work. Including those bowls. Always a critic like a true artist. I honestly believed she could've fully gone into art and made it but she kept glass and pottery to herself as her own hobby :)
Kris, thanks for being there for me and thanks for being a good friend. I'll remember you whenever I blow.

I was one of Kristen’s classmates last semester and she would always be cheerful and friendly in our Japanese class. I remember having a fun conversation with her about k-pop music and the artists we liked which instantly made my day. Kristen was a diligent student that motivated me and made our class enjoyable. It’s hard to come across bright and wonderful people like her. Thank you Kristen and I pray that you are in peace. I send my condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones. 

I only knew Kristen in an online class, but her personality glowed even through the distance. Always upbeat, cheerful, and smiling; and making everyone else smile. Even though it’s very hard now,  we will in time be able to follow her example so she can smile back down on us.


I knew Kristen from one Japanese class at UH, but that was all I needed to meet a girl who was 
so brilliant, bright, and kind. She was eager to learn Japanese, but more eager to get to know her classmates. She was an instant friend whenever you got to be her partner, and she was the person to make class fun.  I respected her drive and positivity. Just by being her classmate, I know she impacted so many others' lives with the amount of love and happiness she gave to everyone she met. My sincerest condolences to her 'ohana and close friends. May she rest easy. 

Kristen was one of my classmates this past semester, and she was one of the sweetest, funniest people in the class. She never failed to make me laugh, and her being there always made the class a brighter, happier place. I didn't know her incredibly well, but I did know she was such a genuine, fun person that always made everyone around her smile.

I was Kristen's Language Arts G/T teacher at Kapunahala Elementary School. I remember Kristen as a sweet, bubbly, kind girl who always had a positive attitude and was a supportive friend to many. I was so sad to hear of her passing, and wish more people would have  had a chance to know her and celebrate the accomplishments that were surely in her future. She will be missed. 💜

I am a friend and co-worker of Kristen's father.  Kristen's father is a man I respect as an engineer, a leader, and a friend.  

Even though I have not met Kristen, knowing her father, I am certain Kristen was a kind young lady and the light of her father's eye.  

I have heard that a life is measured by if you mattered, if you loved, and if you were loved.  Based on this metric, the world has been a better place to have Kristen touch others' lives, and I am glad she brought happiness to her parents, though I am saddened that she has left us so soon.

Kristen and I were friends in elementary. I haven't seen her since elementary as we went to separate schools.
I haven't seen her since elementary up until a handful of years ago when I first started working at Baskin Robbins in kaneohe. I remember the first time she walked in and recognized me her face was instantly filled with Joy. She gave me a fast wave that just shook her whole body. It was adorable and very heart warming.
Shortly after, I ran into her while I was off of work. We had a long conversation just catching up with eachother and what's been going on in our lives. She was genuinely such an amazing person.
She kept up this feeling of excitement everytime she came into work and was honestly the highlight of any day I got to see her. She had such an amazing and beautiful smile when we saw eachother.
I send my love and condolences to the family. Kristen was gone far too soon, but she will always be remembered.

Kristen Pang was a strong, beautiful, and kind woman. I didn’t know Kristen as well as some, but in school she wrestled for Punahou and I wrestled for Pac-5. I remember watching her wrestle and seeing her around the tournaments. Noticing what an amazing wrestler she was and how sweet she was to everyone. Her technique and strive were extraordinary. To the family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. To Kristen, may you rest in peace and love.
