

Mareno Gulisao, age 83, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022. Born in Kailua, Mareno was a loving and devoted Husband and Father. He graduated from Kailua High School in the first graduating Class of 1957 and attained the Player of the Week award with a 98 yard touchdown as an All Star Running back football player.
In 1979, Mareno founded MJLS Distributors Hawaii, Inc., known for "Ono" wholesale snacks foods in major Hawaii retail stores. He started his career with Amfac Ltd., Equitable Life Insurance, State Savings & Loan, and Proctor & Gamble, where he was responsible for introducing "Pringles Chips".
He loved sharing samples of Pemmican or Oberto Beef Jerky, and Slim Jim snacks with anyone along the way. He received the Certificate of Achievement for 20 years of Continued Growth and Customer Satisfaction 1979-1999 for MJLS Distributors Hawaii. Also, in 2001, Oberto Sausage Co., in appreciation of MJLS Distribution, Mareno was awarded for excellence in Sales Execution.
Active in the community and served in office roles for the Windward Oahu Community Association, Kaneohe Kiwanis Club, Kaneohe Jaycees, Portfolio Chairman on Mental Health and Retardation, and Board of Trustee for the City and County of Honolulu Policeman, Fireman and the Bandsman Pension Fund.
He generously shared his time with Windward YMCA, Red Cross, and United Fund campaigns.
Held honors as the Jaycee Man of the Year Award and the Kaneohe District Distinguished Service Award.
Mareno is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Gulisao, daughter Laurie Adams, son Scott (Jessica), grandchildren Joseph lkaika and Keanu Adams.
Additional survivors include his sisters, Goldie Castillo, Betty Ann (Joe) Holmberg, Carol Jean (Bob) Porter, Lianne Gulisao-Oates, Pamela (Jeff) Mariano, and brothers Joseph (Rhonda), Carlos (Kim) and Rogelio (Tamara).
He is preceded in death by his parent Rufino and Miguela Gulisao, Siblings Dolly (Frankie) Anongos, Albert (Janice) and Gary.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 atl0am followed by Eulogy and Mass at 10:30am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church Kailua. Burial to follow at 1 pm at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
