

Pearl Richardson Nishimura, of Kailua, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2022, five days after her 100th birthday. She was the last direct descendant of Wilfred Kelelani Richardson and Amy Wung Richardson. She now joins the rest of her brothers and sisters - Amy Richardson Kaho' iwai, Grace Richardson Wong, William Shaw Richardson, Arlon Wung Richardson, and Robert Kelelani Richardson.
Like her siblings, Pearl was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School - an English Standard School - Class of 1939. She went on to graduate from the University of Hawaii, earning a degree in Business.
Pearl and her husband James "Jimmy" Nishimura got married in Des Moines, Iowa, as Jimmy finished up his degree at Drake University. Their three children, Linda, Holly, and Jay were all born there; the family then moved back to Hawaii and settled in Kailua in 1963. Jimmy worked as an accountant in the private sector, then federal government; Pearl's work centered mostly around local government, first as secretary for her brother Bill when he was Lt. Governor, then as clerical support for various senators and off ices in the State Legislature.
Pearl is pre-deceased by her husband Jimmy, daughter Holly Nishimura and grandson Baby Nohea Tubbs. She is survived by daughter Linda Nishimura (Kapena Kim), son Jay Nishimura (Stacy Naipo); grandchildren Maika' i Tubbs, Liko Tubbs (Katie Aimone), Emily Urbaniak, Noheapualani Polendey, Damon Flood, Annabella Naipo, Joshua Kim (Lauren) and Hoku Kim (Brett Link); nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law Helen Richardson.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 25" at Hawaiian Memorial Park: visitation 9am; memorial service 10am.
