Rodger Koichi Yamasaki was born on June 21, 1934, in Hilo, Hawaii, and grew up in Amauulu Camp. He passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 25, 2024. Rodger retired from Queen's Hospital after more than 30 years of service as a maintenance electrician. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and trips to Las Vegas with his wife, Margaret. Above all, he took great joy in serving as a chauffeur for his grandkids, always looking forward to spending time with them.
Rodger and Margaret shared a lasting bond that endured for 64 years. The two were truly inseparable. Their bond grew even stronger as they devoted themselves to caring for their grandchildren, sharing in the joy of watching them grow.
He was predeceased by his son, Ryan. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; his sister, Yoshie Aoki; sons Rick (Fay) and Guy (Lari); and was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Matthew and Sydney Yamasaki, Makana and Tati Koki, and Nikki, Ryan, and Aidan Yamasaki, and four great-grandchildren: Brazy, Shaldon, Shaezen, and Arya.
