Bernedette Coleman, 53, of KCK, passed away Thursday, April 5 in her home. Memorial Services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Action, 1600 Washington Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66102.
Bernedette was born November 22, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ivory B. and John Henry Akins, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord. She was married to James Fletcher whom she loved with all her heart and soul. James went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2006. People that knew Bernedette through the years knew that she was a loving person. She was truly one of a kind and never hesitated to “tell it like it is.” To know her was to love her. Bernedette was a mother to a lot of people.
She is survived by her daughter Yulonda Coleman-Anthony (Floyd) of KCK, a very special granddaughter Ashleigh S. Akot of KCK, brothers Cullen A. and Rolland T. Coleman, both of Portland and Eugene, OR, John H. Akins, Jr. (Deloris) of Toledo, OH, sister Lisa Y. Akins of Lincoln, NE, sister-in-law Resia M. Boykin of North KC, a special friend Don A. Oliver and a host of nieces and nephews.
