

Carol (Cunningham) York, 76, entered the kingdom of Heaven at the Kansas University Medical Center, October 24, 2015. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28th from 10-11AM with the funeral service to follow at 11AM at Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., KCKS 66111. Interment will follow services at Stony Point Christian Cemetery.
Carol was born to M.B. "Bill" and Crystal (Shue) Cunningham, June 24 1939 in Fredonia, KS. She grew up in the Fredonia area and graduated from Fredonia High School. In 1957 she met and fell in love with her future husband of 56 years, Norman York. They were married Sept 7, 1959 and began their married life in Topeka KS then moved to Kansas City KS in. 1963. In 1972 she began employment as the school secretary at Stony Point Elementary School in KCK. In 1995 she transferred to John F. Kennedy Elementary School also in KCK and worked there until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the Stony Point Christian Church where she served as secretary of the board from 1974 until her passing. She taught the junior high Sunday school class for over forty years. She was also very active in the churches women's group and served in various offices of her circle and the CWF. Carol always referred to the kids she had taught and the ones in the schools where she worked as "her kids" because of her contact with so many children she was well known in the area. She frequently ran into old students and stayed in contact with many of them long after their school years. Carol is survived by her husband, Norman; daughter, Dawn York; brother, Duane (Beverly) Cunningham of Payson AZ; Sisters, Shirley Spoon of Fredonia KS and Barbara (Bill) Potter of Neodesha, KS as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to her favorite charities, City Union Mission or Show-Me Christian Youth Home, La Monte Mo.
