Delores “Doe” Saunders, 80, of KCK, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Providence Medical Center on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015. Memorial visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm, with a service held at 6:00pm, all on Wed., Dec. 30th at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Doe is survived by her devoted husband, Virgil Saunders; daughters, Sharon Knapp (Don), and Cheryl Saunders; son, Don Saunders (Michelle); twin-sister, Patricia Farmer; grandchildren, Mindy Knapp, Mark Jensen, Lori Yslas, Brita Horton, Chris Kirchner, Tina Kirchner, Lindsay Saunders, Taylor Saunders, Kyle Saunders, and Clint Saunders; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, William Estel Walters; mother, Nelle Gwinn Wriston; brother, Bill Walters; son, Ronald Saunders; and daughter Doris Saunders.
Doe was born June 25, 1935 in McKendree, West Virginia and married Virgil Saunders on July 5, 1952 in Mabscott, West Virginia. Virgil and Doe moved to the Midwest in 1961 and settled to raise a family in Kansas. She worked as a nurse’s aid and at the Katz drug store before she stayed home to raise her family; she contracted polio in 1957 and overcame the challenges from that disease after a lot of work. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity, loyalty, compassion, strong will, and genuine unconditional love. Doe was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and most importantly, a true friend. She will be missed dearly and forever adored by many.
