Dennis Ludwig, 79, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on August 3, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bonnie Ludwig, his parents, Paul H. Ludwig and Grace Ludwig, stepmother Ida Ludwig, and his four siblings, Myrtle, Dorothy, Paul and Barbara. He is survived by his children, Lisa Ludwig and Daniel Ludwig .
After graduating from Turner High School, he worked as a Carman for Burlington Northern / Santa Fe Railroad for 41 years where he worked extremely hard and often put in long hours in inclement weather to provide for his family. Dennis served in the military and was a Vietnam veteran earning the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
His hobbies in his younger days included camping and canoeing with family, volunteering with the Cub Scouts, and coaching girls’ softball. He also enjoyed bowling which he started as a young man and continued until the COVID quarantine began in 2020. He was well known for his fudge and no one ever left a Christmas gathering without a large tin of their favorite flavor. After his retirement in 2004, Dennis would often travel with his wife, Bonnie, to their time share in Branson, MO, take road trips to points of interest, as well as annual cruises to the Caribbean and Central/South America.
Dennis’ battle against pulmonary fibrosis began even prior to his official diagnosis in April 2022; however, despite spending much of that time in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he often joked with his family and kept the nurses entertained during his hospital stays.
The funeral will take place on August 18, 2023 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home at 2:00pm.
